Hasil Grammy Awards ke-51

Grammy Awards ke-51 yang diselenggarakan pada tanggal 8 Februari waktu Amerika Serikat telah menghasilkan nama-nama yang meraih sejumlah penghargaan. Namun tampaknya tak ada hal yang lebih menarik daripada mengetahui jumlah penghargaan yang diterima oleh Coldplay.

Seperti yang telah ditulis oleh Musisi.com sebelumnya, beberapa bulan semenjak Coldplay merilis album Viva La Vida beserta lagu dengan judul yang sama, Joe Satriani menggugat band asal Inggris itu karena lagu Viva La Vida tersebut dianggap mengandung unsur yang menjadi ciri khas dari lagu If I Could Fly yang terdapat dalam album Is There Love Is In Space? miliknya.

Kubu Joe Satriani sendiri telah melakukan gugatan kepada Coldplay. Namun pihak Coldplay sendiri enggan menanggapi masalah tersebut. Media-media hiburan di seluruh negara tampaknya memang tengah menanti apa yang akan terjadi dengan berhasilnya 'Lagu Joe Satriani' tersebut menyabet 3 penghargaan di Grammy Awards.

Penghargaan yang berhasil diraih oleh Coldplay yaitu :
- Song of The Year (Viva La Vida)
- Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals (Viva La Vida)
- Best Rock Album

Selain aura panas antara Coldplay dan Joe Satriani, hal lain yang cukup menarik adalah suksesnya Robert Plant berjaya meraih sejumlah penghargaan bergengsi. Metallica yang comeback dengan Death Magnetic-nya pun berhasil menyabet lebih dari 1 penghargaan.

ISRAEL'S SIEGE of Gaza is not only intended to continue the policy of strangling the Palestinian will to fight back. The Israeli government also hopes to turn the residents of Gaza against Hamas, the Islamist party that won elections to the Palestinian Authority (PA) parliament in January 2006.

After a series of military clashes with the Fatah Party, which remained in control of the PA security apparatus, Hamas won undisputed control of Gaza in July of last year.

Israel's hard-right political leaders are perfectly open about their aim of overthrowing Hamas, despite its solid election victory two years ago, winning 75 of 120 legislative seats.

"Both myself and Kadima's Haim Ramon understand that we need to act decisively and firmly in order to topple Hamas," wrote Israeli member of parliament Effie Eitam, a member of the far right National Union coalition. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is a member of the Kadima Party.

Israeli politicians claim that the firing of Qassam rockets by Palestinians at the Israeli town of Sderot just across the border from Gaza leaves them no choice but to continue the policy of siege.

But as Israeli peace activist Uri Avnery wrote in late January, "Several months ago, Hamas proposed a ceasefire. It repeated the offer this week. A ceasefire means, in the view of Hamas: the Palestinians will stop shooting Qassams and mortar shells, the Israelis will stop the incursions into Gaza, the 'targeted' assassinations and the blockade.

"Why doesn't our government jump at this proposal? Simple: in order to make such a deal, we must speak with Hamas, directly or indirectly. And this is precisely what the government refuses to do...The real purpose of the whole exercise is to overthrow the Hamas regime in Gaza and to prevent a Hamas takeover in the West Bank.

"In simple and blunt words: the government sacrifices the fate of the Sderot population on the altar of a hopeless principle. It is more important for the government to boycott Hamas--because it is now the spearhead of Palestinian resistance--than to put an end to the suffering of Sderot. All the media cooperate with this pretence."

Linkin Park is treating fans to a free holiday showing of the international broadcast version of their new concert DVD Road To Revolution: Live At Milton Keynes. The footage will stream for 24 hours beginning 12:01 AM on December 24th via the Linkin Park Media Player on linkinpark.com. At the same time, Meebo will let fans discuss the new DVD in real time in the Linkin Park Meebo Room.

During the broadcast, fans who purchase the Road To Revolution: Live At Milton Keynes CD/DVD via the Linkin Park media player will receive a free limited edition Linkin Park poster.

"We wanted to give the fans something special for the holidays," says Chester Bennington. "The Milton Keynes show was a special concert for us and by streaming it online, we can share that experience with all of our fans around the world."
